Accutane

Accutane, or isotretinoin, is the treatment of severe nodular acne, skin disorder characterized by many bumps over 5 mm in diameter and painful on face skin. It is retinoic acid related to vitamin A and is usually prescribed to those patients who have already unsuccessfully tried antibiotics. Accutane controls oil in follicles and is found naturally in the body in very small amounts. The medication has been proven effective for the majority of patients (80%), and its effect lasts for a very long time. Yet there are a few serious side effects patients have to know about before taking it.

Adverse Effects and Precautions

Patients who take Accutane should be prepared to experience several side effects: the most common include headache, cracked lips, bleeding of the nose and gums, hair loss and brittle nails, uncomfortable feeling in skin and eyes, bad night vision and pain in muscles and joints. Moreover, at first acne can temporarily worsen. If those side effects get worse or become intolerable, inform a medical specialist. Besides, be careful during physical activity as the drug may weaken your bones as well. More serious adverse effects that require immediate medical consultation are deep depression, hallucinations, seizures, intense pain in the stomach and head, severe weakness, rectal bleeding, severe diarrhea, and loss of hearing. If you notice that you are allergic to the medication, call the emergency. Usual symptoms include severe rash, difficulty breathing, swelling of face/lips/throat/tongue. It is very dangerous and not allowed to take Accutane during pregnancy because there is a high risk of serious birth defects such as missing earlobes, facial defects or mental retardation. For this reason, women of child-bearing age are required to take birth control pills while using Accutane as well as to make a pregnancy test a month before starting treatment to ensure they are not pregnant. Don't take Accutane if you have an allergy to isotretinoin and parabens or if you are diabetic, asthmatic, suffer from depression, liver or heart diseases, or problems with your bones.

How to Take It

Accutane is a prescription-only medicine. It is recommended to strictly follow doctor's instructions, otherwise, especially in case of overdose which is very dangerous, you increase the risk of adverse effects appearance. Accutane is produced in capsules that must be swallowed with water, and it is better to take the drug with milk or some food to reduce the aftereffect and avoid having upset stomach. Drink at least 1.5 liter of water every day and stop taking vitamin A supplements during the medication intake. Also, be careful with your skin exposed to sunlight (Accutane makes it more sensitive to UV rays) and avoid driving at night as the drug can worsen night vision. Furthermore, visit your therapist regularly and have your blood tested to make sure it doesn't affect your health. Lastly, donating blood is not allowed as it may be given to pregnant women. Today you can easily purchase Accutane and other drugs with the help of the Internet. Online pharmacies offer their customers high quality drugs, low prices and other indispensable services.
