Furosemide
Furosemide is a fast-acting diuretic — a water pill, enhancing excretion of sodium and chloride. It provides an effective relief of swelling caused by an accumulation of fluid in soft tissues, fluid lungs, wet brain, and kidney failure, even in cases when other drugs of this class turn out to be useless. It is also used as a treatment for high blood pressure, which is able to regulate severe hypertensive crisis and heart failure. In some cases, it is prescribed for liver cirrhosis, eclampsia, and other conditions.
Furosemide is also marketed under the following names: Lasix, Furocot, Frumex.
